 Chuck Elrick-Head Coach

      The Mariner Swim
Team evolved from a merger with the Dariern YMCA throughout the 1970's and 80's.  A New Haven based training group was led by Chuck and Bill Wall until 1981 when it was decided to disband the merger and go it alone.  For five years the team was know as the New Haven YMCA Mariner Swim Team until it moved to the new pool at Hopkins and changed its name to the Hopkins Mariner Swim Team to better identify with its location.  Through these years, Chuck has been the teams only head coach.
In 1981, Chuck served as the Connecticut Zone coach for the 12 & under boys at the Zone 1 Championship Meet, and in 2007 Chuck was one of the coaches selected to take a group of CT.'s elite swimmers to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. for a week of high altitude training.
Chuck is also the head coach of the girls and boys swim teams at Hopkins, as well as the head coach of the girl's and boy's water polo. Since 1983, Hopkins has compiled twenty-four divisional
team championships, has been runner-up at the New England Championships seven times, and in 1998 the boys achieved the top spot as New England Champions. In Chuck's 34 years at Hopkins,he has compiled a 611-162-3 won/loss/tie record, and has coached 34 Prep School All-American swimmers/divers, and 3 Prep School All-American water polo players.
From 1999 through 2006 Chuck was the club manager at the Paugusset Club in Orange. Prior to Paugusset, Chuck was the head swimming and diving coach at the High Lane Club in North Haven, the swimming and diving coach at the Paugusset Club in Orange, and the swimming and diving coach at the Brownson Country Club in Huntington.  Chuck lives in Clinton with his wife, Cheryl and their daughter, Elizabeth and son, Brendan.

She graduated from Hopkins School in 2006, and was a member of the Hopkins Varsity swim team all four years.  She was named captain of this team for her senior year, and after that season, she received the Bud Erich Award for “most dedicated swimmer”, which was voted on by her peers.  While at Hopkins, Elizabeth was also a member of the co-ed Varsity Water Polo team, until 2004 when she petitioned to have the genders separated.  The school granted the petition, and since 2005, Girls Water Polo has been a recognized Spring Varsity sport.  Elizabeth captained the Girls Water Polo team for her junior and senior years.
After graduating from Salve Regina University in May 2010 with a degree in Social Work, she returned to the New Haven area and started assistant coaching with the Mariners, working primarily with the Age Group and Silver groups.  Elizabeth also started assistant coaching for the Hopkins Varsity swim team and water polo teams.
